March 11, 2026 – Day 77
Staniel Cay & The Land and Sea Park
We’re motor sailing toward Ships Channel today, planning to anchor overnight before heading out early tomorrow to Spanish Wells and then on to the Abacos. The Abacos will be our last big stop before returning to the States.
L
We would have loved more time at Warderick Wells—the Land and Sea Park—but with a weather window opening to reach the Abacos, we decided to take it.
And yes… Here's a birthday pic. Note the candles… yup... cut up straws!
Sunday – Staniel Cay
We spent Sunday at Staniel Cay, enjoying lunch at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club. It was such a lazy, lovely afternoon—I could have stayed there all day, just watching boats and people come and go.
Of course, we spotted more nurse sharks. See his eyeball!
Monday – A Bit of a Blur
Monday is fuzzy in my memory, but I do know Steve spent the day making water. Unfortunately, our water maker is leaking. He doesn’t want to tackle the repair until we’re back in the States—likely a parts issue.
It reminded me of a day at the salon… highlights everywhere!
P.S. the foils are to direct the leaking water into the bucket!
To end the evening, we watched the sun set.
Tuesday – Warderick Wells, Land and Sea Park
Oh my… I had no idea how breathtaking this place is. Cell photos just don’t do it justice.
Here’s how it works: the park has only about 20 mooring balls inside. If you don’t get one, you anchor outside or grab an outer mooring, then call the park to be added to the waiting list. It could take a day, two, or even a week before your name comes up. We only stayed one night and had a mooring outside the main area, but we explored by dinghy.
This is a 52 foot whale skeleton.
While searching for our mooring ball (not all of them are numbered, of course), Steve spotted his friend Tom from Blackbeard. They had a nice chat.
Later, we met up with friends who showed us a fantastic snorkeling spot. My first real snorkel—with fins and a mask! I’ve always preferred not knowing what was beneath me, but this time I saw so many beautiful fish. Then a big stingray glided by, and I decided that was enough adventure for one day and quickly made it back to the dingy.
Later, we hiked up Boo-Boo Hill, famous for the signs left behind by cruisers. Look what we saw!!! ( Our friends Scott and Jessica’s Methuselah sign ..love it!)
We ended the day with Tom and Mary aboard for sundowners, watching the sunset and their dinghy heading out to sea. Another photo op missed… I really need to get better at capturing these little mishaps. LOL.
I’m still working on an easy way to convert video files without using so much data. For now, I’ll save them for a “video day” when we get back to the States—because honestly, videos capture it all the best! 🌅⛵😄
So cool you saw our sign!! We loved that area. Great pictures😊
ReplyDeleteThank you... I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it!!
