Hopetown Charm and Sailing Decisions
Day 90
We spent the last couple of days in the sweetest little place called Hope Town. Picture charming pastel homes, golf carts buzzing along narrow lanes, a wide and uncrowded beach, one restaurant, and not a single grocery store. It felt like the kind of spot an author would retreat to for inspiration.

Such a cute property
Hope Town is also home to something truly special—the last lighthouse in the world still kerosene-burning and hand-wound nightly by keepers. A living piece of history standing tall.
Before that, we were in Marsh Harbor, hoping to snorkel, but the water was too rough and our dinghy too deflated to risk it. Instead, we met friends at a beach bar and grill called Nippers. The fun twist there? They have a pool you can use while visiting. We did, though the water was a bit “nippy” one brave soul managed a full plunge!
Perfume Showdown – For the Ladies
For about ten years, I’ve worn the same perfume I discovered in a Christmas sampler. Since then, I’ve tried others here and there but never found a true contender. This Christmas, I received another sampler and turned it into a little game: every few days I’d pick two scents, and we’d eliminate one. Last night was the grand finale.
The winner? Robanne – Million Gold For Her (a brand I’d never heard of). The runner-up was Prada – Paradoxe. A fun little activity, and now I have a new favorite scent!
Bug Update
So apparently there are flying waterbugs! I have numerous traps set out and everyday I check them….NOTHING! Probably quietly reproducing right under our noses.
Sailing Realities
Never in my life did I give much thought to wind direction, tides, swells, fetch, water depth, or detailed weather forecasts—until sailing. Now, those details are everything. Steve spends countless hours planning our routes, factoring in conditions I don’t even know about, all to keep us safe.
With more bad weather forecast this weekend, we had to decide: stay in the Bahamas or head back to the States. We chose to leave, likely Thursday, taking advantage of a weather window. We haven’t explored the Abacos as much as we’d like, but that just means if we come back we know where to head first.
Today we’re underway to Manjack Cay, a sparely inhabited island on our push north. The seas are calm today - a rare gift!
Another log in the journal-memories captured- stories shared and hopefully a few smiles for the readers 😄
So glad you made it to HopeTown. It was one of our Top 5 places. Loved Nipper’s!! Scott was the brave one to get in that water. I agree… too cold! We left Bahamas two days ago and our now in Vero Beach. We so loved being in paradise, but boy does it feel good being back home. Safe travels to you both… see ya’ll back at Blackbeards 😎
ReplyDeleteI am not surprised Scott went in...very adventurous! How long will you be in Vero? We are underway now and hope to get to Vero tomorrow afternoon. You will have to let me know where you went for that Thai food. I am salivating just thinking of it! I'm glad you are happy to be back in the states :-) Safe travels and see you soon!! clapping!
